Glasshouse Mountains Day 4x4ing 29.7.12 – Nothing Broken!

Nothing may have broken but the funny thing is that everone had a great time and all 4 vehicles were towed out of mud at some stage of the tracks.  There were 4 vehicles and 10 people to enjoy our day trip 4WDing around Glasshouse Mountains forestry tracks – 2 x Nissan Navara Dual Cab utes, 1 x Ford Territory Dual Cab ute and 1 x short wheel base Toyota Bundera driven by our son Matthew Lang.  Matthew hasn’t been 4WDing in his Bundera since 2010 Easter Trip to Levuka with us and only got his license this year.  On one section Matthew got into a bit of strife with the Bundera, not that he thought so, getting it on an interesting lean!  He had a great time and did very well – his Dad was proud!  Got him away from the computer!

We drove around until lunch time on a few good tracks and only our Matthew had been bogged up to this point.  We had our mandatory picnic off the back of a ute along one of the tracks.  Today Emma prepared lovely BLT’s with chicken and we brought along some cans of Coke and bottles of Bundaberg Ginger Beer.  Lunch was scrumtious and the lunchtime conversation terrific.

After lunch the other Matthew (2 Matthew’s on this trip) in his white Nissan Navara, which he has lifted and has allterrain wheels on, took us through a fantastic track that we hadn’t been on before.  It was one of those tracks that once you committed to there was no going back.  On one section though Matthew, on Chris’s “go on” tried a section of track that went through a large puddle of water and mud and then inclined slightly.. well Matthew got through the puddle and the mud was so thick and soft that he went up to his axels.  Once he realised that he couldn’t go any further he reversed and my you should have seen his wheels when he came out!  No tow required!

We had to turn around at this point in the grass and between the pine trees and back out of that track.  I had jumped in with our Matthew and he reversed all the way back to the entrance.  We wondered why the trail bikers at the entrance having a quiet break, looked at us funny as we entered the track….  We came across a few trail bike riders throughout the forest this day who found some good riding tracks for them – this one was one of them.. no good for the 4bys today – too wet.   They didn’t cause us any grief and it was good to see riders out and about having fun too.  There was an eary quietness later in the afternoon once they had all left for the day.

The weather was so good.. nice and sunny and not a drop of rain.    We finished up for the day around 4pm after getting through the track Matthew took us along which wound up toward the end of the power lines – a great track!  Matthew brought along some friends who are keen now to get a 4WD of their own.

Chris also towed out a Nissan Patrol with a young family on board that was bogged.  There is usually someone else around on a good day.  On our way out we slowed to watch a Toyota Landcruiser 80 series and an MQ Nissan Patrol having fun on a nice embankment in an open area.

David has installed Perfect Lift Suspension Lift Kit himself and Toughen The Truck Up installed 3 new underbelly plates to our Nissan Navara D40 prior to this trip. With the extra 2 inch lift we were able to go much further than before…  There were occasions when he still bottomed out hard and the underbelly plates protected us well – no broken bits this time!  We broke the radiator on our last trip with the original cover plate bending up and putting a hole in it.

With larger allterrain tyres we would get more lift and traction.. see what happens.  Everyone had a great time and we look forward to our next day out 4WDing.   Now that we know how good the Perfect Lift Suspension Lift Kit is, we sell them through our business for $475.00 incl gst if you are interested in contacting us for more details (Hilux & Navara only).

Thank you for reading and might see you on a track somewhere.
