NISSAN NAVARA D40 – NEW CANOPY & PURPOSE BUILT DRAWERS

David decided that he wanted drawers in the back of our Nissan Navara D40 2012 model to make the tray more useful.  Before we could do this we had to install a canopy and David did his research.  We decided to go with Tuff’n The Truck Up who installed a Thailand built all steel canopy onto our Nissan Navara.  I liked the lining, remote locking of the tailgate, the overhead light and the overall style.  It really sets our Navara Ute off and we can now utilise the back space for drawers that David has built himself with some help from friends.  By doing this we saved $1600 as we were quoted $2,500 to have them built.

The drawers include 2 full length pull out drawers, one shallower than the other and 2 side top opening drawers and a back opening where the battery for our ARB Fridge sits.  David’s friend Gary helped initially 2 weekends in a row as David had good ideas but no idea where to start.  Gary was a great help and we hope feeding him and supplying the coffee he will come back to visit!!  David and Gary actually worked well together and it was a good time to catch up.  Gary teaches dentistry for a living and David sells chemicals and bearings so neither of them are professional carpenters.  Another friend, Chris helped David, who supervised, to install the wiring for the fridge battery and we thank him also.

The finished item has turned out fabulous and we have tried it out on a 2 night stay at the Hacienda Holiday Park, Kingscliffe in our Aussie Swag Camper.  David just needs to secure the drawers down into the Navara as they do tend to slide back in travel.  We are heading off to the top end of Australia in December for 2 weeks and he drawers will be just terrific for storage.  Also the new weight in the back really makes the Nissan stick to the road.  We love our Nissan Navara!

this really looks what I’m looking for as the commercially made gear is too expensive. Where did you get the gear from to make the drawers. I see there is a ply substructure but what materials are the drawers. Did you get roller guides for the drawers. Could you forward as much detail as possible. Thankyou Steve
