One of our specialties is spherical bearings, which are used for a wide range of industrial and engineering applications. Read on to learn more.
Spherical bearings are made up of two or more interlocking parts that form a spherical shape. The bearing itself is comprised of three main components: the inner and outer rings, which are part of the bearing housing, and the balls or rollers that make contact with the inner ring.
The inner ring fits snugly into a housing, while the outer ring has some space between it and the housing wall. When pressure is applied from outside the bearing (such as from an axle), a vacuum is created within the housing. This pulls the ball/roller into contact with the inner ring to spin freely without friction.
A spherical bearing permits angular rotation around a central point in two orthogonal directions. These types of bearings support a rotating shaft in the bore of the inner ring allowing it to move rotationally and angularly.
Spherical roller bearings have a high tolerance to shock loads. In addition, they can be set up to be self-aligning, making them a popular bearing type for machinery and other engineering applications.
Spherical roller bearings are used in a diverse range of machines and appliances due to their versatility of design. Some key examples of where spherical bearings are used includes:
Due to the diverse range of applications that spherical bearings address, many different spherical bearing types exist. Some examples include, but are not limited to:
