What are plummer blocks?

A plummer block also called a pillow block for lightweight applications, is a type of industrial pedestal that supports a shaft with compatible bearings of various kinds.

Plummer blocks come in various shapes and sizes, but all support the same application. The assembly comprises a diecast mounting block or flange that houses a bearing fitted to a shaft.

Some examples of places a plummer block is used include:

Different types of plummer blocks

Split plummer blocks

Split plummer blocks provide easy mounting and dismounting of machine shafts and bearing components. They feature two or more locking bolts that hold the upper section of the housing in place, which can be easily removed for access, adjustment and servicing.

Non-split plummer blocks

Non-split plummer blocks look the same as split plummer blocks; however, offer support from one complete diecast mount providing robust operation of heavy duty and high load machinery.

Flanged housing

Flanged housings offer the same utility as a pillow or plummer block; however, they feature a round or square flange for mounting bearings on machine walls or anywhere else, wall-mounted bearings require fasting.

Take-up housing

Take-up housings also provide the same utility as plummer blocks and flanged housings; however, they consist of a guide frame, positioning screw and mount for adjusting heights and tensions.
